For Non-residents

Thank you for considering Banyan Tree Advisors for your investment needs.

This page is designed to guide our prospective Non-resident Indian (NRI) clients through the account opening process with clarity and ease. Understanding your residency status is a crucial first step in the account setup process.

Navigating the paperwork

Opening an account with Banyan Tree Advisors is a straightforward process, although it involves some necessary paperwork due to legal and regulatory requirements. Rest assured, our team is dedicated to making this process as simple and stress-free as possible. A knowledgeable advisor will always be on hand to assist you, ensuring that all steps are completed accurately and efficiently.

If you are in India or planning to travel soon, we can arrange for signatures and in-person verification requirements at the bank, guiding you through each step.

For those residing outside India, we are fully equipped to assist you via email or video calls, ensuring you receive our full support no matter where you are.

Understanding the account opening process

Broadly, the process for opening an account with us involves completing the following steps:

  1. Sharing documents that establish your identity, nationality and address, such as your PAN card, Passport, overseas address proof, OCI/PIO card, personal bank details, nominee and photographs.
  2. Completing the paperwork required to set up your PMS account with us.
  3. Completing the paperwork necessary for HDFC Bank Custodial Services to open your bank, demat and trading accounts. A member of the bank’s team will visit you to help you complete this step (if you are travelling to India) or getting the required set of documents from authorised persons.
  4. Once you have completed these steps, your investment journey with Banyan Tree Advisors starts when you transfer your investment amounts to your newly created bank account.

This process is usually completed within twenty-one business days but may take longer if there are issues with your documents, or if there are unexpected delays at the end of HDFC Bank.
